NFL Power Rankings

Per Tyler's request...give us your NFL Power Rankings so far.  In other words rank the teams.  Who do you think are the best and if you choose the worst.  Rank the top 5, rank the top 4 in each conference, or rank all 32.  You choose.  Please post.

  1. The NFL has been crazy so far. I like the idea of a power ranking but we all know it really doesn't matter because if we are interested in a Superbowl Champion then week 6 means nothing. Giants 2011 9-7, Packers 2010 10-6, Giants 2007 10-6, Steelers 2005 11-5. But wait. What a person should do is look at the Superbowl Champs after week 6 and find out what their record was. That makes more sense and then maybe week 6 does matter.

The 05 Steelers were 3-2 after week 6 but were 7-2 at one time before faltering. The 06 Colts were 5-0 after week 6. The 07 Giants were 4-2 and 6-2 at one point. The 08 Steelers were 4-1. The 09 Saints were 5-0. The 10 Packers were 3-3...hmmm. They won their next 4 before losing so were 7-3 at one point. And the 11 Giants were 4-2 and 6-2 at one point.

So we see that even at 3-3 it is possible but most of these teams had things rolling. Here are my top 4 for each conference right now.

AFC- weaker of the two I believe

    1. Texans 2. Ravens 3. Patriots 4. Steelers

Just think about the possibilities in the AFC. It's sick. The Chargers? I couldn't bring myself to put them on the list no matter their record. The Broncos? They need to win a few games first. Currently they have 2. That's one less than a few. I know, I know the Steelers only have 2 but they also have superbowl experience. And a lot of it.

NFC- clearly the dominant conference right now as is evident by 3 straight superbowl victories

    1. Giants 2. Falcons 3. 49ers 4. Packers

I don't care if the Giants go 8-8. If they make the playoffs I'm picking them to win the Superbowl. They do win everytime anyone thinks they can't. Really they need to drop a few more so they don't get homefield. The Falcons are good but can't be number 1 because of my previous argument for the Giants. SF is 3rd for me until they relinquish the West. When Seattle or Arizona or StL for that matter beats them out then I'll drop them. And GB is clearly tops offensively when Rodgers is on and gets time. The Bears aren't here because no matter how good their defense is I don't trust Cutler. And as much as I do love Percy Harvin I can't commit there yet. I've already stated my reasons for Seattle not being here. If they beat SF on the road Thursday then maybe but for me they need to win the division. And I almost forgot. I did pick the Lions to be in the superbowl and today they got a nice road win but have a lot more proving to do.

If you haven't got my drift here I believe going back and forth too much between spots is just pointless. Certainly the Giants, Packers, Texans, Ravens, and many more are what we thought they were. Crazy stuff!

  2. Kieth, I appreciate you putting this on the blog. I figure since everyone over reacts on a week to week basis about the teams, why not have a power rankings thru week 6. Considering our last topic peeked some interest, maybe this will do the same. I completely agree with you about the NFC being alot stronger than the AFC. I am not sure what the hell happened to the AFC….yikes…with that said here our my rankings

NFC: 1. Giants, 2. Niners, 3. Falcons, 4. Packers. I have the giants 1 due to the fact if they get in the playoffs they're going to be an extremely tough to beat. For some reason they just know how to win games when it matters the most. Although the Niners got worked against the Giants I still say they have a great defense, and Alex Smith had a terrible game. Its funny that Smith actually looks decent considering he's had the same coach and OC for 2 years in a row….imagine that, if you dont have 6 different coordinators thru 6 years and have a coach that is there to help you, you will play better…shocking!! I am not completely sold on the falcons, but they're 6-0 so I guess they have to be in there, however I can't get the last 2 playoff appearances out of my head. Losing at Home to the Packers, and then on the road last year putting up I believe 2 points against the giants!! Yikes!! I know they have a good offense, but that defense stinks to me and I am just not sold yet. I rounded out my rankings with the packers, with Rodgers I just think they've got a chance. The defense is still the suspect part, but if they get rolling like they did 2 years ago, watch out. I thought about putting in the Bears, but I dont trust cutler, and also thought about the Hawks, but I just didn't see them better than those 4 teams. I would say the hawks are 6, and to me that's pretty good.

AFC: 1. Texans, 2. Patriots, 3. Ravens….I only rated 3 teams because I have no idea who the hell is that great in the AFC. I think the Texans are the best team, with the defense and running game I think they've got a great chance to go to the Super Bowl. I've got the patriots 2 because of Brady and Belichick, and I think they're better on offense than the ravens. With all the injuries the Ravens have I am not sure how they're going to end up. The offense is going to have to carry them, but I am not sure if Flacco can carry them or not. I guess we will see. I didnt like the chargers because of Turner and him being an idiot and his teams always under achieve, the broncos I have no clue because they're defense stinks. So I think the remaining spots are definitely up for grabs, and I just don't think the AFC has that many good teams, but somebody will have to represent them.
